Rooted in the land of La Réunion, Ban Makwalé belongs to a generation of artists who reinvent maloya while remaining faithful to its original spirit. The group’s name, inspired by the Makhua people of Mozambique, evokes the African roots of their approach and the memory of origins. Formed by musicians from Le Port, La Possession, and Saint-Paul, the collective draws its strength from diversity and sharing.
Their music follows the path of traditional maloya while incorporating new sounds, reworked rhythms, and modern harmonies. The group stands out for its sincere, organic approach, where voice, percussion, and melodies engage in a living dialogue between past and present.
On stage, Ban Makwalé captivates audiences with its intensity and warmth. Each concert becomes a moment of communion, where the heritage of maloya blends with contemporary pulses to celebrate the strength, beauty, and pride of a culture in motion.
