Born in 1966 in Le Tampon and raised in Trois-Mares, Ti Fréd (Fréd Belhomme) was drawn to the sound of percussion from a young age, first through the Malbar processions and later to maloya starting in the mid-1970s.
He took his first steps in the Flanboyan troupe, participated in Radio Pikan programs, and joined the “servis” at Gramoun Baba and Madame Zaza, discovering the Réunionese cultural scene. In the 1980s, he played with the group Léspwar and recorded his first track, “Kon Yé,” on the compilation Lantant Maloya, which was reissued in 2002.
In the 1990s, Ti Fréd joined Danyèl Waro’s group as a chorister and pikèr player for about ten years before forming his own band to express his personal compositions. After 15 years away from the stage, he now returns with a new team.
