Yugen Blakrok, born in Queenstown, South Africa, first gained recognition in the 2000s on the underground hip-hop scene thanks to her dense, conscious lyrical style.
After moving to Johannesburg, she joined Iapetus Records and released her debut album Return of the Astro-Goth in 2013, which received critical acclaim and earned nominations at the South African Hip Hop Awards.
Alongside producer Kanif the Jhatmaster, she toured extensively in South Africa and Europe, sharing stages with major international hip-hop artists.
In 2018, she appeared with Kendrick Lamar and Vince Staples on “Opps” from the Black Panther soundtrack, and released her second album Anima Mysterium in 2019.
Following further collaborations (including Cyberpunk 2077 and a VW campaign) and multiple tours, she is preparing a third album set for release in May 2025, exploring an even more adventurous sonic landscape.
