Founded in 2001 by Pascal Bret, son of a famous maloya artist from Saint Pierre, Mangalor stands as a guardian of tradition. Their colorful maloya incorporates Indian ocean sounds, they practice it as a religion, with its own codes and rituals. The band’s name comes from the broken rice that was the main commodity consumed by the lower class after World War II. Their two albums Pilé pilé ( 2013) and Kabar maron (2017) show a strong bond to daily realities and that’s what makes Mangalor’s strength. No doubt they will set the stage on fire in their hometown !
